Thursdays 10:30-11 a.m.: Family Storytime: Join us for stories, songs, rhymes, & other fun activities perfect for children ages 0-5 and their parents and caregivers!

Fridays 10:30-11 a.m.: Baby Storytime: A lapsit story time for infants- 18 months. Interactive fun with music, stories, finger plays, counting rhymes and playtime. Babies should bring their parents or caregivers to join the fun!

Masks are highly encouraged for all events.

Jan 10 10:30 a.m.-noon: Early Literacy Playdate: Join us for a playdate at the library! Explore early literacy and learning through hands-on sensory activities. Be ready to move, build, play and create. Perfect for children ages 0-5.

Jan. 11 11 a.m.-1 p.m.: SJBPH Help with Health Coverage: Guide can help apply for insurance, find low cost/no cost coverage for those who are eligible, and answer any insurance questions. You can also schedule an appointment by contacting HIL@sjbpublichealth.org or 335-2028. Appointments can be booked with language interpretation if needed.

Jan. 11 4-5 p.m.: Teen Time – Game Zone: Help us break in our new Nintendo Switch. Everyone in grades 6-12 is welcome.

Jan. 11 6-7:30 p.m.: Word Honey Poetry Zine Workshop: Join us at The Hive's indoor skatepark (1150 Main Ave. Suite A) and help us build a poetry zine.

Jan. 13 3:30-4:30 p.m.: STEAM Lab – Forensics Frenzy Friday: Build, explore, create and problem-solve. Join us for fun STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) based activities. This week: An exploration of forensic science.

Jan. 13 6-7:30 p.m.: Whodunit Mystery Night!: It’s the dead of winter and Friday the 13th so, of course, we have to have a party for teens after the library closes. But, not everyone will survive … Will you? Bring your friends (and enemies, too …) and join us for an unlucky evening in the library where someone will die and you will need to figure out whodunit before you’re the quiet killer’s next victim. For teens in grades 6-12. Everyone must register to attend. And don’t be late.

Jan. 25 4-5 p.m.: Teen Time – Climate Book Club: Join us in the Teen Library for a book club led by the Green Team at DHS. The book club will meet the last Wednesday of every month and discuss topics related to climate change and how teens can make a difference. This month we’re talking about “Fuzzy Mud” by Louis Sachar. If you need a book, ask at the Teen Office. Everyone in grades 6-12 is welcome.

Weekly Programs
YOGA FOR ALL

Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-10 a.m.: This class combines the cool stillness of yin yoga and heat and flow of movement to create a balance that can be modified to work for every body. All you need is a yoga mat and a water bottle. Some yoga tools such as blocks, a blanket and a strap are encouraged. These classes are on a donation basis. COMMUNITY FAMILY YOGA

Saturdays, 9-10 a.m.: Let’s gather and allow our children to witness and join our yoga practice. About the teacher: Lena is a mom that felt guilt around leaving her child to go practice yoga, but also felt guilt around taking her child into yoga with her. She’s taught yoga for six years and wants to hold space for parents like her. No more guilt. This class is run on a donation basis. All levels and all ages.

MOUNTAINTOP MOVEMENT FITNESS CLASSES

These classes are hosted by local fitness instructors Brian and Tammy Williams. Follow them on the Mountaintop Movement Facebook page for more information.

Full Body Fit Class: Monday-Thursday, 8:15-8:50 a.m.: Work out using your own body weight or light hand weights to work all the body parts. The free classes are always similar in style but always different moves to keep it fun and fresh. You’ll need a yoga mat and light hand weights. If you don’t have them, there are extras that can be used. All ages and fitness levels are welcome.

COMMUNITY KNITTING AND CROCHET GROUP

Sundays, 1-3 p.m.: All are welcome. Whether you have been knitting and/or crocheting for years or you would like to learn, we are happy to have you and will do our best to help you get started.

January Take and Makes

Xeriscaping: This kit includes free xeriscaping friendly seeds and access to a recording of a presentation on the topic by the La Plata County Extension office. Available starting Jan. 9.

Rain Gauges: This kit includes a free rain gauge and a handout about measuring moisture from the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS). Available starting Jan. 16.

Waffle Gardens: This kit includes everything you’ll need to grow a mini waffle garden, a time-tested agricultural method that has been used by Indigenous peoples to successfully grow crops in our semiarid environment for generations. Available starting Jan. 23.

Jan. 2: Library closed.

Jan. 2, 6-8 p.m.: Typeset Writers’ Group: No rules, just writing. Each month a member of the group will bring an article for discussion. Participants also have the option to bring two pages of their own writing to read aloud, but it’s not required. If you’d like to read your own writing, please bring it in manuscript format.

Jan. 5, 4-6 p.m.: County Commissioner Matt Salka Office Hours: La Plata County Commissioner Matt Salka will hold in-person office hours from 4 to 6 p.m. the first Thursday of each month at Pine River Library, 395 Bayfield Center Drive, Bayfield. Members of the public are invited to meet with Salka to discuss county issues of interest or concern. For more information, call 382-6219.

Jan. 6, 6:30 p.m.: First Friday Flicks: Join us for a movie on the big screen the first Friday of each month! In January we’ll be showing “Where the Crawdads Sing.”

January 10, 10-11 a.m.: Card Making at the Pine River Senior Center: Join us at the Pine River Senior Center every second Tuesday of the month and create two beautiful handmade cards. Free.

Jan. 11, 2-3:30 p.m.: Bookmarks Book Club: Bookmarks is open to all adults. The library provides the books, the discussion leader and a place to gather outside. Stop by the library to request a copy of the January book (“Little Souls” by Sandra Dallas) or the February book (“The House in the Cerulean Sea” by TJ Klune).

Jan. 16: Library closed.

Jan. 17, 1-2:30 p.m.: Death Café: Pine River Library is one of many groups in 79 countries across the world that host Death Cafés. A Death Cafe is a time and place where people come to share food, drink tea or coffee, and discuss death openly and honestly. The aim is to increase awareness about death in order to help people make the most of their (finite) lives. Join us every third Tuesday of the month.

Jan. 18, 6:15 p.m.: Regular monthly meeting of the library’s Board of Trustees

Jan. 26, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Spanish Conversation: Join us for an hour of conversational the library. Come practice your Spanish in an informal setting. All ages and language levels welcome.

Jan. 27, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Pine River Senior Center Outreach: Enjoy books and DVDs available for check out, delivered to you at the Senior Center with an extended loan period (four weeks, rather than the standard one to three weeks) each month.

Ongoing Events

Powerhouse Pass Program: Sunnyside Library and Fort Lewis Mesa Library have Powerhouse Passes available for check out at each library. The pass will allow you and your immediate family free entry to the Powerhouse Science Center. Passes can be checked out on an adult library card for one week.

Check Out State Parks Program: Fort Lewis and Sunnyside Libraries have “Check Out State Parks” backpacks available for check out. Each pack includes a pass for free entry to Colorado state parks, binoculars, wildlife viewing guides and park information. The pack can be checked out on an adult library card for one week.

Blood Drive at the Library: Thursday, Jan. 12 at 1-5 p.m.: Blood drive with Vialant. The donation bus will be parked in the plaza for anyone interested in donating blood.

Denim & Diamonds Gala Fundraiser: Friday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.: Put on your best dress and join us for a night out at the library. Enjoy hors d’oeuvres and local wine. Listen to live music by Adam Swanson, one of the world’s foremost performers of vintage American popular music. Special guest artists and their pieces will be available for viewing as well as a silent auction. Tickets can be purchased at the library, $35 in advance, $40 at the door, all to support the Friends of the Ignacio Community Library.

Night Sky Party II: Saturday, Jan. 28 at 5:30 p.m.: Another chance for you to view the stars in style with us is happening this month. You can enjoy a short program on star and space gazing and on how to use our telescopes followed by viewing the beauty that our night sky has to offer! Dress warm, hot drinks will be available.

Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., Open Art Studio: Work on your art projects, receive help and advice, and enjoy conversation and good times with other local artists. Guests and new members always welcome.

Wednesdays at 10 a.m., Storytime: An easy and fun way to prepare your child for life. Begin your journey at Storytime where we use stories, songs, dancing, crafts and more to help your child learn and have fun.

Wednesdays at noon, Electronics Hour: We invite you to come tune up your skills or learn something new with us. Electronic-based projects and more can be found with us weekly.

Thursdays at 9:30 a.m., Feldenkrais Movement Class: Improve your flexibility and coordination by learning to abandon habitual patterns of movement and develop new alternatives. Free class – no sign up required.

Thursdays at 1 p.m., Knitters Group: Join our lovely group of knitters for a beverage and a chat in our Community Room.

Fridays at noon, Sewing Group: A new regular program is coming to our library: Sewing Group. Whether you're a beginner or an expert you're invited to join us every Friday for some fun around sewing projects and crafts! Beginning Jan. 6.

Saturdays at 11 a.m., Saturday Game Days: Starting Jan. 14 you can spend your Saturday's gaming it up with us! Our Community Room will be set up with board games from chess to Farkle, Risk to Exploding Kittens and more! We’ll be open for games between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Snacks will be provided!
