Barber will be assistant athletic director for internal operations
Kali Barber

The Fort Lewis College Athletics department this week named Kali Barber as its assistant athletic director for internal relations/compliance, effective immediately.

“I am so excited to be back home in Colorado and taking on a new role right out of graduate school. Stepping into this position will allow me to grow as a person while simultaneously growing with the student-athletes and coaches that I will be serving,” Barber said. “I have some big shoes to fill but am ready and willing to take on the challenge.”

Barber, a native of Centennial, Colorado, joins the Skyhawks after a graduate assistant position at Seattle Pacific University in the compliance and academic success sector. She is set to earn a master's degree in intercollegiate athletic leadership from the University of Washington this month. At SPU, Barber monitored NCAA DII rules for on- and off-campus visits, amateurism, special benefits, practice and playing seasons. Additionally, she evaluated and assisted in the monitoring of initial and continuing eligibility prospective and current student-athletes.

Barber often assisted the compliance officer to maintain compliance policies and procedures, and she participated in the training of athletic staff in monthly NCAA Rules Education meetings. She assisted in academic monitoring and grade check communication with student-athletes and coaches as well as communication with student academic services and the center for learning for the management of at-risk student-athletes.

Outside her job description, Barber also lent a hand on game days to ensure a positive, smooth experience for student-athletes. Her background includes a stint as a sports information assistant at Pacific University, where she volunteered with video livestream, social media, in-game promotion and photography.

Barber earned her bachelor's degree in exercise science and motor behavior from Pacific University in May 2021. She was a four-year member of the women's soccer team, playing goalkeeper.
