With eight counties in my Senate district, I’ve been honored to work with some of Colorado’s finest law enforcement, especially here in my home county. During the past 20 years, Duke Schirard, as La Plata County’s sheriff, has not only been responsible for the residents’ public safety, but has gone well beyond his daily duties to be instrumental in the creation of the Robert Denier Youth Detention Facility, the Durango/La Plata 911 Communications Center and has been the foremost leader in critical incident training. Sheriff Schirard has also taken a stand, shared by sheriffs across my district, to uphold the constitutional rights of all La Plata County residents. Please join me in re-electing Duke Schirard for La Plata County sheriff.
Next, I’d like to thank Ed Murray for his many, many years of service as La Plata County treasurer. While never seeking the limelight, Ed has been a steady hand on the finances of the county, through good times and not as prosperous times. Thanks to Ed for a job very well done.
In picking Ed’s successor, I’m voting for Bobby Lieb. As county commissioner, Bobby has already demonstrated his commitment as a public servant, earning him the respect and trust of the residents of this community. Bobby understands the duties of the treasurer and he brings the business skills to successfully meet the responsibilities of the office. Based on his knowledge of county government, Bobby has specific ideas that will build upon current efficiencies in the county treasurer’s office to further enhance services to the residents, to streamline operations while expanding employee skills, and to effectively manage tax collections and administer fund balance investments.
Please join me in electing Bobby Lieb as La Plata County’s next county treasurer.
Ellen S. Roberts

Editor’s note: Roberts represents the 6th District in the Colorado State Senate. She is running, unopposed, for re-election.
