Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, independent or whatever, it should really sicken you as to what is going on in the sheriff’s race. The Sean Smith campaign has done nothing other than attempt to smear the good name and reputation of Sheriff Duke Schirard and his family. Here is a man who has dedicated a majority of his life to the protection of lives and property in La Plata County, and how is he thanked? I was born and raised here in La Plata County and have never witnessed anything like this in politics on the local level.

Why would such a despicable man, as Smith has portrayed Schirard to be, provide an opportunity for Smith and his wife to make a living? Why do Smith and his wife continue to work for such a despicable man? With Smith’s claimed wealth of experience, shouldn’t he be able to find employment with someone less despicable?

Well, the truth is, Smith applied for a few managerial law-enforcement positions before returning to the Sheriff’s Office, and he was turned down because of lack of experience. (This came from Smith’s own words.)

Sean Smith has stated in forums that the most significant difference between him and Schirard is integrity. I personally believe this to be true! Nobody with integrity knowingly spreads career-ending lies about a man and his family!
