That’s despite insidious lies that individual had promoted on climate change, immigration, gun control, gay and transgender rights, separation of church and state, and affirmative rights, to name just a few.
In the same breath, no institution should feel obligated to give voice to such a vile individual or organization under the guise of protecting freedom of speech.
Fort Lewis College is welcoming Turning Point USA. By the same mistaken logic, should the college not also greet with open arms the Ku Kluz Klans and John Birch Societies of the world?
What we individually listen and pay attention to is our own business. But our institutions of higher education should act responsibly and not sanction and provide homes for organizations promoting malicious, destructive falsehoods to our children and young people.
Accordingly, I hope our local college reconsiders and makes the proper ethical decision – and just says no to Turning Point USA.
