Old cottonwood deserves protection

Have you enjoyed the historic and majestic cottonwood on the northeast side of the 32nd Street bridge? The one that drapes its branches over the sidewalk and turns ablaze in the autumn?

This tree was scheduled to be cut down on Wednesday to make room for the new bike path connection. Because of the community outpouring of heartfelt concern, the city has put a pause on this to take another look and see if there is a way to save this historic tree. If you value our trees and the habitat and joy they bring, please let the city know. I believe we have great people in our city who are smart enough and resourceful enough to create a way for all of us to enjoy riding or walking around this tree and resting in its magnificent shade.
