Being born and raised in La Plata County, I have known Jann Smith for more than 30 years. I have ridden her school bus, attended school with her kids and have worked with her on more than one occasion in the last 20 years. When choosing a coroner, one should look for more than assembly line experience in a big city medical examiner’s office. Being a coroner is as much about dealing with those left behind as it is determining the cause of death.
