Wouldn’t you like to know what backroom deal created the amendment that essentially gutted the Hermosa Creek Watershed Protection Act immediately before it was to be presented to the House Natural Resources Committee? The bill, as originally written, was based on local consensus that was reached after six long years of work by many stakeholders with diverse interests. The original bill had wide bipartisan support and should have been a no-brainer. Rep. Scott Tipton has supported and sponsored this bill in the House, and now it is time for him to make sure that these changes that were made in secret and at the last minute are thrown out. He needs to listen to his constituents and respect the hours and hours of painstaking work that went into creating the original bill. Please contact Rep. Tipton and let him know that we will not accept the disingenuous claims from his office that this amendment does not significantly diminish protection of the Hermosa Creek Watershed.
