On “The Ingram Angle,” this week, President Donald Trump insisted that America “doesn’t have” enough talent and must now rely on immigrants to meet the nation’s needs. I welcome this pragmatic pivot. Since the president recognizes the value of immigration, it’s time to bring Fernando Jaramillo-Solano and his two children home.
The arrest of Fernando Jaramillo-Solano and his two children was a case of mistaken identity – yet U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents proceeded, allegedly subjecting the family to beatings, sleep deprivation, humiliation and conditions a father described as “torture.” U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents turned violent and violated the First Amendment rights of peaceful protesters.
Since Washington is now admitting that America needs immigrant talent, I look forward to Washington repairing harm. Reunite the Jaramillo-Solando family. Repair the damage the parents and children have suffered. Restore due process. And rebuild trust in our traumatized community.
