Bayfield High School starts eight freshmen on its 14-man Class 3A boys soccer varsity roster.
The Class 4A Durango High School junior varsity outmanned and outscored BHS 8-2 on Friday at Wolverine Country Stadium.
Bayfield scored a pair of second-half goals and only lost the half 3-2.
“There were a lot of good things that came out of this game,” BHS head coach Dave Foster said.
Grant Pierce, a freshman, scored the Wolverines’ first goal on a penalty kick in the 60th minute.
Finlay Marshall, a sophomore, scored the Wolverines’ second goal “on a really nice through ball” from Pierce in the 73rd minute.
Foster said BHS has seven players on the roster that played club ball in the offseason with several of the Durango JV players, “which makes for a pretty competitive rivalry,” he said.
BHS (0-3) will host Alamosa at 11 a.m. Saturday.
