Farmers Market Profile: Peacetree Organix sells produce, helps you grow your own

Durango-based business also does landscaping
Dave and Misty Travieso of Durango’s Peacetree Organix run their booth at the Durango Farmers Market. The business brings both plant transplants and produce, including a wide variety of garlics, to the market.

Durango’s Peacetree Organix offers landscaping services, but at the Durango Farmers Market, it is mostly known for its fresh produce and plants from its nursery.

“We sell vegetable transplants in the beginning of the season, and as the season moves on, we focus on greens, tomatoes, tomatillos and garlic,” said owner Dave Travieso.

“We really focus in the early season on plants and getting people’s gardens started, he said.”

Fans of seasoning and those plagued by vampires will be happy to know that Peacetree, which has been around 15 or 16 years, produces 20 varieties of garlic.

“Everything we grow is all natural, no chemicals,” Travieso said.

“We make all our own soil, so everything is grown with all-natural compost. ... We try to be as Earth-conscious as possible.”
